Vertonghen Spurs Move On, Hammers Chase Bendtner, & M’Vila Fancies Arsenal

Jan Vertonghen is on the verge of a move to Spurs

AGENT INSISTS VERTONGHEN SPURS MOVE STILL ON

Jan Vertonghen is still on the verge of a move to Tottenham Hotspur despite Harry Redknapp’s sacking.

Spurs opened talks with Ajax over a possible transfer for the Belgium international last month, with Redknapp known to be a keen admirer of the centre-half.

Redknapp’s sacking last week had cast doubt over the move but the 25-year-old defender’s agent Mustapha Nakhli insists the transfer is still on, with the clubs currently in negotiation over a price.

Nakhli said: “We have a good relationship with Daniel Levy. He wants the deal to happen and there is a good atmosphere [between us].

“I don’t know when it will happen but the deal is close, very close.”

WEST HAM CHASE BENDTNER

Nicklas Bendtner displays at the Euros - despite Denmark’s exit at the group stage - are likely to help secure him a move away from Arsenal this summer.

The 24-year-old spent last term on loan at Sunderland but Black Cats manager Martin O’Neill was not keen on making the move permanent.

Bendtner was not too heartbroken however, and is keen to remain in London, and now it appears a move to Upton Park may well be in the offing.

Sam Allardyce has already been linked with high-profile targets this summer and will feel his strike-force needs beefing up ahead of taking on Premier League defences with Bendtner fitting the bill.

JOHNSON IN QPR TALKS

Mark Hughes appears keen to tie up a deal for Andy Johnson after the 31-year-old frontman’s release by Fulham.

Rangers boss Hughes, who managed the player at Craven Cottage, wants to see him renew his Cottagers partnership with Bobby Zamora, who moved across London to Rangers in January.

Johnson scored 11 goals in 33 appearances last season, including a hat-trick in the Cottagers’ 6-0 thrashing of QPR.

The former Birmingham, Crystal Palace and Everton striker joined Fulham in 2008, playing 86 Premier League games and scoring 13 goals in total.

M’VILA ADMITS ARSENAL INTEREST

Defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila has admitted he would be interested in a move to Arsenal.

M’Vila is currently part of Laurent Blanc’s France squad at Euro 2012, and he came on as a second-half substitute in their 2-0 win over co-hosts Ukraine on Friday.

“I have heard Arsenal are interested in me,” M’Vila said. “I like Arsenal and I like the Premier League.

“I don’t know what is happening with the clubs, but yes, I would be interested in the Premier League and Arsenal.”

ON THE CONTINENT

Defender Cristian Chivu has penned a new three-year deal with Inter Milan

Hannover have sold forward Moritz Stoppelkamp to ambitious 1860 Munich for an undisclosed fee.
