RODGERS IN £30M DOUBLE SWOOP
Liverpool are ready to spend £30million on two players as Brendan Rodgers bids to turn his side into an outfit challenging for the Champions League places next season.
Around £22million of that will go on Shakhtar Donetsk’s attacking midfielder Henrik Mkhitaryan after the Armenia international scored a record 25 goals in the Ukrainian Premier League last season despite operating as an attacking midfielder.
Rodgers is also looking at Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet as a replacement for Pepe Reina, with the Spanish goalkeeper still on Barcelona’s radar despite Víctor Valdés decision to stay at the Nou Camp and play out the remaining 12 months of his contract.
Despite Sunderland’s insistence that the Belgium goalkeeper is staying, Mignolet is aware of reported interest from Merseyside and Arsenal and an offer of around £8million could see the 24-year-old leave the Stadium of Light.
JESUS CLOSE TO CITY DEAL
Manuel Pellegrini appears on the verge of making his first signing at Manchester City despite not officially being in charge at the Etihad just yet.
Sevilla winger Jesús Navas, 27, is close to moving for an initial £17million, with the Spanish international expected to travel to the Confederations Cup later this month as a City player. Following Sevilla’s final game of the season on Saturday boss Unai Emery said: “All the signs are that Navas will leave. It is the best thing for Navas and for the club.”
Navas said: “I am open to anything and I want to win titles. City is a team I like a lot.”
MOURINHO’S ARRIVAL SPARKS EXIT RUMOURS
Before he’d even been confirmed as Chelsea boss, the likes of David Luiz and Fernando Torres were being linked with moves to La Liga as Jose Mourinho’s arrival sparked talk of who’ll be leaving.
Reports are hinting that Luiz is not Mourinho’s cup of tea and he’d been looking to offload Torres before he’d even arrived in London.
Speaking to Chelsea TV yesterday Mourinho said: “I think we are ready to marry again and be happy and successful.”
Looks like it could prove a stormy relationship with some of the step kids.
