Footballing legend, Alan Shearer, put youngsters through their paces at St. George’s Park, the National Football Centre in Burton-on-Trent, thanks to Match Attax, the official Barclays Premier League football trading card game.
After having won a nationwide competition, fifty-two lucky youngsters from all corners of the UK descended on the FA’s new £105 million facility last week to learn a range of football skills from the former England player.
Match Attax fans and collectors scored a place at the exclusive training session at St. George’s Park, by entering codes online found in the packets of the hugely popular trading card game.
Winning codes unlocked a range of prizes, with the chance to attend the training session with the Premier League legend as the ultimate reward.
Rod Pearson, Marketing Director for Topps, the publisher of the collectible Match Attax cards, comments: “We’re delighted that we have the support of Alan Shearer; it was fantastic to see him in action at the exclusive coaching session, where it turned out to be a truly memorable day for all the lucky winners of our competition.”
Holly Glover, Commercial Manager at George’s Park, said: “It was great to welcome our sponsor Topps and Alan Shearer to St. George’s Park today. Part of what we’re aiming to achieve here is to create an atmosphere where everyone can feel inspired by our facility–hopefully today’s prize winners will go away feeling inspired by Alan Shearer’s expertise and what they’ve seen here at St. George’s Park.”
Published exclusively by Topps since 2007, Match Attax is aimed at football fans of all ages and offers players and collectors alike a fun-filled accompaniment to the football season.
The 2012-13 edition of the trading card game features super-skill cards, Star Signing and Star Players, as well as Man of the Match, Premier League Legends and 100 Club special cards.
