A ‘new-look’ England opened their qualification campaign for the 2012 European Championship in sparkling style. We are, tongue-firmly-in-cheek, referring to the brand new England Home Jersey which debuted against Bulgaria at Wembley.
It is a nice kit we must admit but will glorious white and royal blue be the colours of failure yet again come 2012?
The F.A. have been criticised in many quarters by the ill-judged launch date; coming so soon after the team’s miserable collapse at this summer’s World Cup. In response, the F.A. have outlined how the merchandise revenue is key to the funding of on-going projects like the Burton Academy as well as investment into grass-roots coaching.
Will fan’s sentiment still be seething for them to show their protest by boycotting the new jersey? Especially since the one it replaces still retains a timeless appeal. Or will fan’s plunge into their deep pockets (F.A.’s views, not ours) and wear their support on their full/halve- sleeve, even if only to banish the memory of the South African nightmare?
